Luxury Resorts That Balance Family Life and Romance - Banyan Tree Mayakoba

The Mayakoba area is one of the destinations that has been on our list to visit in Mexico and we finally had the opportunity to do so, as a family of 3. We have traveled to many continents, countries, cities and states, but traveling as a family with our 9-month-old daughter was by far the most anticipated vacation that we’ve ventured on. The Banyan Tree Mayakoba resort is absolutely beautiful. Upon arrival, you are greeted with lush greenery and architecture that is traditional to the Banyan Tree brand. The staff greeted us with such warm welcomes and guided us over to the private check-in location. There we enjoyed cool towels and refreshing, immune boosting drinks and treats while receiving an overview of amenities and pre-set plans for our stay. Instant relaxation. In this recap, we want to highlight this luxury resort and what it brings for couples and/or families. We want people to know that they can travel with their children and — due to the resources available — have a great time together as a family as well as alone as a couple.

Accomodations

We stayed in the Serenity Pool Villa. Our villa was ready upon arrival, and we think it was the most perfect villa for families. There were two completely separate spaces behind the doors of our private entrance. To the left was a living area which included a large lounge area, full bar and fridge set up with a TV. We opened our doors to a gorgeous spread of local fruit, delicacies and fresh coconuts.

Childcare Services

Becoming first-time parents during the 2020 pandemic was such a complex and monumental moment in our lives. We thought a lot about what our daughter's experience would be like traveling abroad and also how different it would be for us, as we’re used to being a traveling duo. We were intrigued to know that there were childcare options that Banyan Tree Mayakoba offered. Banyan Tree utilizes a reputable service that has nannies and sitters that have been screened, vetted and follow a particular protocol. We set up their services prior to our arrival so that once we arrived, we could plan our actives accordingly. For children a little older than our baby, starting at age 5 through 12, Banyan Tree has the absolute coolest kids space called the Rangers Club. You are allowed to bring children under 5-years-old if accompanied by parents. They have tiny pools, a playground, and different activities every hour. Everything down to the restrooms is so well thought out and customized for children specifically. I couldn’t stop gushing over the modern décor and playrooms they have. The club is located adjacent to the beach, beach bar, and restaurant. We met a couple during our Mezcal tasting experience at the beach front restaurant that had two children in the Rangers Club. Their children were thoroughly enjoying their time there. We actually saw them pass by on their way to a “treasure hunt” with the staff. The Ranger’s club definitely seems like a great option for families with age qualifying children to participate in. We are also very clear that childcare abroad is not for everyone; however we made our decision based on what worked best for our family.

Activities

We went on an Ecological Tour via a comfortable and aesthetically pleasing boat ride throughout the Banyan Tree property. This tour gave us a glimpse onto the sister Mayakoba properties as well. This was such a relaxing and informative tour that we were glad we participated in. We saw crocodiles from a safe distance, exotic fish, birds, and the cutest turtle families amongst other wildlife. For individuals as well as families, it’s something that everyone vacationing there would enjoy and we recommend doing during your stay.

Date Night

Having childcare on property was so convenient for us. The sitter came to our villa about 30 minutes prior to starting her services. We had an opportunity to connect and share information with her, as well as getting a feel for her. Instinct and comfort are very important to us. There were several restaurants on property that we wanted to visit but one of our top choices was the Tomahawk restaurant. The presentation of the food and libations, and preparation of the Tomahawk by the chef provided the perfect date night ambiance. We also enjoyed a day date laying out in beach front cabanas with full food and beverage services and resort ready music to top it off. While there we participated in a Mezcal tasting that was so fun and memorable that we deiced to search for a few bottles to take back home with us. These are the type of experiences that add to the value and allure of staying at 5 star resorts. Banyan Tree Mayakoba was the perfect place for us to spend our first family vacation abroad. From the COVID safety protocols, to the excellent service provided at every turn, to the activities, scenery and food, we were so happy with our experience and highly recommend Banyan Tree for other travelers looking to balance family vacation and romance.
